About Gnome Sciences
Gnome Sciences is a contract research organization based in Powell, Ohio that specializes in analyzing animal and/or human tissue samples for pre-clinical and clinical research in the biopharmaceutical industry. We are seeking a detail-oriented histology and molecular biology laboratory technician to join our scientific team.
As a lab technician at Gnome, you will contribute to preparing and analyzing human and animal tissue samples for research purposes. Your knowledge and experience in cell and/or molecular biology will be essential to ensuring accurate and timely delivery of results to our clients in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries.
Responsibilities
- Receive and QC biospecimens and lab reagents.
- Make and update chain of custody forms as samples are received and processed.
- Operate and maintain laboratory equipment including microtomes, ovens, tissue processors, and staining machines.
- Carefully follow, write, and update standard operating procedures (SOPs) as new procedures move in-house.
- Maintain accurate records of all tests performed and results obtained.
- Assist in the execution of routine histological and molecular biology procedures such as tissue fixation, embedding, sectioning, staining, homogenization, and nucleic acid extraction.
- Learn and perform various complex procedures including immunohistochemistry, in-situ hybridization, and RT-qPCR.
- Collaborate with pathologists and other laboratory staff to interpret and report findings.
- Adhere to strict safety protocols and maintain a clean and organized work environment.
Skills
To excel in this role, the ideal candidate would have (or be willing to learn) the following:
- Basic knowledge of histological techniques and procedures.
- Proficiency in molecular biology techniques such as nucleic acid extraction and PCR.
- Knowledge of CGLP (Current Good Laboratory Practice) guidelines.
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to multitask.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Effective communication skills to collaborate with team members.
Qualifications
Minimum:
- B.A. or B.S. in biology, biochemistry, or bio-related fields.
- 1 year of biology-related laboratory experience.
Preferred:
- >2 years of experience in a laboratory setting.
- Ability to commit >2 years to the position.
- Experience with GLP/CLIA standards of documentation and/or other forms of scientific record keeping.
